Organise yourselves! Working (together) in the arts
12th – 18th March 2018 // Ringlokschuppen Ruhr Mülheim
From 12th to 18th March 2018 Ringlokschuppen Ruhr Mülheim hosts the fifth Cheers for Fears Festival for students of the arts and art theories in NRW. The Festival offers you an intensive time of exchange about artistic practices and aesthetics, self-conception and goals. You’ll get to know diverse artistic positions and will have the possibility to discuss your own work. Real beginners are just as welcome as advanced students or recent graduates.
Apply until 18th February 2018 with an artistic work, work-in-progress or simply for participating. Contribute video installations, theatre, performances or music, dance or scenic lectures – or surprise us with forms for which no name has been found yet.
The works will be presented between 15th and 17th March 2018 in transdisciplinary showings and installations. To discuss a work-in-progress with the other participants, you apply for the afternoon Labs. They are followed up by the public showings of fnalized artistic works. The intermediate results of the current CHEERS FOR FEARS-production platform Transit will also be presented at CHEERS FOR FEARS-Festival. This is preceded by three-day workshops on forms of artistic work with established artists, researchers and makers of the art scene.
The basic question of how we organize our artistic work accompanies us as a guide through the festival week. What different forms of production are connected to certain artistic and scientifc practices? How does the method determines an artistic statement? On the threshold of professionalization in the current art scene, how do we work together to create ensembles and collectives? To what extent do we accept hierarchies as useful? And what conditions favour transdisciplinary collaborations and hybrid art forms?
Some details concerning your application:
- Apply with the attached application form until 18th February 2018, with or without an artistic work. Transfer the form via mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
- Participation requirements: You are studying in the art feld in NRW or completed your studies not long ago. You participate in the entire festival and are keen to discuss your artistic work and those of the other participants.
- Due to a limited capacity of the festival and its audience and increasing numbers of application, we will have to reject more applications than in the previous years. Decisive for this are the letter of motivation (see below) and the feasibility of the artistic work. Please give us an insight into your work by sending us links with pictures/videos.
- We want to give many people the possibility to participate in the festival, while our resources are limited. So a contribution of 30€ per person for food, accommodation and workshops will be charged.
