March 16-20th 2022 at tanzhaus nrw ::: Participants & artistic works wanted ::: application form ::: german version
The next Cheers for Fears Festival will take place at tanzhaus nrw in Düsseldorf from 16 to 20 March 2022. We would like to invite you to present your artistic works, to get into conversation with each other and to celebrate. The festival sees itself as a transdisciplinary artistic forum where artists from the most diverse disciplines come together. Here you will get to know students with different artistic background, share your knowledge, get feedback on your work and may put your practice and studies in relation to current discourses and pressing issues.
Wed, 16 March Welcome Night, Deliveries & Facilities
Thu, 17 March Workshop Camp
Fri, 18 March Open Space & Discussion, Showings
Sat, 19 March Feedback talks, showings
Sun, 20 March Feedback talks & Closing brunch
The festival offers you four and a half intensive days of exchange – food and accommodation included. Learn from each other in the workshop camp, discuss questions that move you in your studies and get into conversation about your artistic work. All those who take part in the entire festival will receive a festival bursary of 200,00 €.
- Participate and join the discussion.
Participate actively even if you do not bring your own artistic work or workshop. Just share your enthusiasm, your empathic perception and your critical eye with us.
- Be part of the workshop camp.
At the workshop camp, everyone is a workshop giver and a participant at the same time and thus gets to know the different expertise and secret superpowers of the other festival participants. You can just participate or give a workshop in which you share your knowledge. Your one-hour workshop should deal with a topic close to your heart – and be limited to a specific aspect of your skills. Can you give a body or voice training? Would you like to share strategies for university or cultural politics commitment? Pass on knowledge from the field of production management? Teach skills in video editing or sound recording? Break down an art-theoretical topic? … There are no limits to the topics!
- Put a concept or a work in progress up for discussion.
The internal presentations offer you the opportunity to discuss a project idea or a work stand among the students or to find fellow artists for artistic collaborations. Time-based work stands should be max. 30 minutes long.
- Participate in the Showing Marathon with your work.
Present your work in public to a broader audience at the two-day Showing Marathon. Get feedback from the other festival participants afterwards. Time-based works should be max. 60 minutes long.
We are looking for
We are looking for you – art students and emerging artists who are interested in four intensive days of exchange and open discussion, four days of art. We are also looking for artistic works – may they be elaborated or still in progress. We are looking forward to receiving submissions from all disciplines, from installation, film, scenic and musical formats. Whether experimental video, dance piece, concert, sound installation, performance, film or play – you’ve come to the right place. Your motivation, the diversity of the artistic positions and the technical feasibility play a role in the selection of the works.
The focus of the festival is not on prizes and winners, but on open-hearted, engaged exchange. Therefore, participation in the entire festival is a prerequisite as well as the willingness to discuss one’s own work and engage in the festival’s conversations.
Send us your applications untill 20 January via the application form on our website. Applications are sent by anyone who wants to participate in the whole festival (with or without artistic work).
